Re: Good lakes to fish?  (United States)
Hi Joe and welcome to the forum, we appreciate your support. Listed below is some information regarding waterways nearest to you that I am familiar with. SMALLER LAKES/RIVER NEAR YOU: Lake Bowen (Spartanburg, SC) & Lake Blalock (Chesnee, SC) *These lakes are controlled by Spartanburg Water System (SWS); Lake Lyman (Lyman, SC) & Lake Cooley (Lyman, SC) *These lakes are controlled by Startex-Jackson-Welford-Duncan Water District (SJWD); Broad River (Cherokee County) *Landings are provided by Duke Energy; Lake Cherokee (Gaffney, SC) & Lake Thickety (Gaffney, SC) *Landings are provided by SCDNR. LARGER LAKES NEAR YOU: Lake Murray (Irmo, SC) *Nearest landing I recommend is Dreher Island State Park; Lake Wylie (Lake Wylie, SC) *Nearest landing I recommend is Buster Boyd Landing. A great source for lakes I have found is: "sclakes.com" & "dnr.sc.gov". If this is your first bass boat I highly recommend starting out on smaller lakes. When I first began bass fishing I fished the smaller lakes and then graduated to the larger lakes. My boating background did not include bass boats as they are not the norm where I come from, which is Southeast Louisiana. I was more used to running industrial fishing boats. It was extremely rare to even see anyone with a bass boat in my area. This is mainly due to people in my part of the country not taking much of an interest in bass fishing. Most people, including my family, made their living off of the water with the seafood industry (shrimp and blue crab). It was not that long ago I was new to Bass Fishing. With coming from a "brackish water" environment (where salt water and fresh water meet) I had to drastically change my way of fishing. By starting out on smaller lakes I was able to learn a great deal rather than jumping in head first. Also the larger bodies of water can be somewhat intimidating if it's your first time running a bass boat on your own. Another thing too is that you can take your time more and practice various bass fishing techniques to enhance your skill set. I was lucky enough to have a good friend show me the way. My friend Chris helped me greatly with not only getting started with fishing for bass but has helped me with continuing to grow my knowledge of this species and fishing for them. Joe I hope this information helps you out. When you’re ready to hit the larger lakes up my way (Hartwell and Keowee) look me up and we can meet at the launch and I’ll show you some pretty good spots. Take care and have fun with it, Daryl
